a walk in the forest

Matthew and his class from school took a walk through
a local forest recently to learn about
the culture and traditional beliefs of the Digo people.

I was amazed to discover that people are still
using this forest for ancestor worship.

The beliefs of the people before Islam and Christianity
came are still very present in people's lives.

The students were asked to wear black as a sign of respect
to the ancestral spirits present in the forest.

This small grass building is a home for a spirit

to whom a person entering the forest must first ask permission to enter.

I just kept praying to the Creator of the trees during our tour.
That HE would be made known.
That HIS glory and Name would fill this space.
That the One true God would be worshiped here,
through knowing His Son Jesus Christ.

Where is the road to the home of light?
Do you know where darkness lives,
so you can lead it back to its border?
Are you familiar with the paths to its home?
Job 38:19-20

Jesus told him,
"I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me."
John 14:6
